I missed on purpose

There is a ton of content being released in the year of our Lord 2026. Every week we hear about a new series on Feebuu or a new indie horror movie on from youtube that make $300 million. Most are not worth you time, but quite a good chunk are pretty good, and a few will blow your mind. This piece of work is far above anything that has come before. Full stop, no caveats or conditions. Across genres and generations, The Hawk is leagues better than any series, movie, book, podcast, experimental indie short story that has been made to date. It might seem on the surface like some dumb comedy with William Pharrell and Jimothy Tatro, with fart and dick jokes. I’m sure to the untrained and uncultured eye when Molly Shannon talks about feeding genitals to various domestic animals the nuance can be lost.
First of all, we need to talk about the cast. Will Ferrell (Semi Pro), Molly Shannon (I Love That For You), Fortune Fiemster (Life in Pieces), Luke Wilson (Bottle Rocket), Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal), Keith David (Hazbin Hotel), and let’s not even get into the fact it look 3 whole episodes to see Dr. Spaceman (Chris Parnell). For the 1st time in Jim’s life (Jimmy Tatro’s friend call him Jim) he plays a character unlocked by the people around him. There was even a market research report that stated his perception to PGA fans, and non fans alike, was “generally unlikeable”. I’m not sure how much viewers of The Hawk will believe that, but he does seem like he could be Molly Shannon’s son. There’s even Rickety Cricket! Aaaaand Fortune Fiemster plays a criminal, which works a lot better than you would think, and that baseline is pretty high already.
Next, we have to talk about the story. There are themes and narratives that are universal like The Hero’s Journey, from The Epic of Gilgamesh to Confession’s of a Shopaholic. This work of art should be in college level courses, taught alongside the works of Sophocles and Shakespeare. This story, much like Star Wars or the Odyssey, is a story of father and son, of mi familia, a story of love and friendship, legacy and regret, determination and perseverance, man vs himself, gunshot wounds and pickles, lastly and possibly least- golf.
So the answer to the question: Should I watch the Hawk and would I enjoy it? Yes you should and it’s about 50/50.
